Dear past and future puppy owners, I loved your puppy first. I thought of you – future owner, years before you even realized you would one day have one of my puppies.  I planned for and cared about your puppy long before you started thinking of adding a Poodle to your family.  I thought and prayed about your future with that puppy; before you even knew there would be one. There were hours upon hours spent researching lines for the grandparents and parents of your puppy, going over breeders and pedigrees and health records, choosing not only my own companion but looking for a dog that...

They are getting better about using the litter box to go potty in and now that we have set up the exercise pen for them, they can jump in and out of the whelping box to play, explore and stretch their legs more often. I have shaved their faces and was really surprised to not find silver under the dark puppies hair!  They may yet fade to blue but no silver it looks like.   They were all just fine with me shaving their faces and trimming their toenails. We have been playing with their feet and running the handle end of the clippers over them...

The Sofie/Tristan puppies are now 13 days old.  Their eyes are beginning to open, they are beginning to totter around the box and go potty away from where they are sleeping.  We have doing the early neurological exercises with them and they are no longer fighting being put on their backs but they now let out a sigh or a yawn and then relax as we gently rub their little chests. They are gaining weight well and really growing! Even our little one – the last born, that many of you know of as “Ki” (with a long i) He has been such a little fighter!  We have not done any...

Canine newborns perceive the world very differently than we do. They are  born deaf and blind. They can only feel their way around. Their most important sensory perceptions at birth are detecting a heat source- their dam’s and littermates’ and their sense of smell. You can watch them moving their heads back and forth until they first, detect heat and crawl towards it. The most important help you can provide is making sure the surface they crawl on is soft, warm and gives them some traction. Puppy’s well-being during the first few critical days rests upon being warm, (but not too hot) fed and...
